Hello,

I cannot seem to get past Xorg failures to boot into graphical mode on my Odroid-Xu4 running either the downloaded 4.5.5-300 based kernel system or the "dnf update" 4.6.5-300 kernel based system and packages. It appears that gbm cannot find /usr/lib/dri/exynos_dri.so.

Can someone help me get past this problem? Do I need to install another package containing the exynos_dri.so? If so, which package?

Thanks.

Following are both the messages from my Xorg.0.log and the messages from "startx" when I try to start it manually:

I cannot seem to get past Xorg failures to boot into graphical mode on my Odroid-Xu4 running either the downloaded 4.5.5-300 based kernel system or the "dnf update" 4.6.5-300 kernel based system and packages. It appears that gbm cannot find /usr/lib/dri/exynos_dri.so.
Can someone help me get past this problem? Do I need to install another package containing the exynos_dri.so? If so, which package?
It's in the libdrm package, not sure why it's looking for the
unversioned one. Are you using a binary driver from elsewhere or just
pure Fedora rpms?

I am using stock system. No external software here.

BTW, I notice also that Xorg seems to be trying to use the Mesa driver here rather than the Mali driver when the Odroid-Xu4 has Mali hardware. Is this normal?

There is no open source mali driver, mesa is 3D and does numerous
hardware. It depends on a number of things. You might have to add a
xorg snippet to explicitly load the xorg-x11-drv-armsoc driver as it
might not be properly detecting the hardware.

Ok. It seems I got a lot further with the armsoc driver but Xorg still
fails. This time _CREATE_GEM cannot allocate memory for a scanout buffer.

Here is what I did. I actually copied the Ubuntu /etc/X11/xorg.conf
file to my /etc/X11 directory.

The following is the content of both the /etc/X11 directory and the
xorg.conf file but ONLY the xorg.conf file is non-stock Fedora:

Ok. It seems I got a lot further with the armsoc driver but Xorg still
fails. This time _CREATE_GEM cannot allocate memory for a scanout buffer.
You might need to increase the cma memory allocation try adding
cma=64M to the end of the append line in /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf

Here is what I did. I actually copied the Ubuntu /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to

Will I need to rebuilt the initramfs with this parameter as well?

Ok. I appended cma=64M to the end of the "append" line in
/boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf and rebooted the system. That had the
effect when I rebooted to cause my monitor to constantly flash on and
off repeatedly and would not let me get to the point of being able to
ssh into the system. Nor was I able to login via an alternate console.
I have since removed the cma=64M and rebooted to where I was without the
cma=64M appended.

Any other suggestions? They are most appreciated.

Seems to be an improvement to some degree then, can you ssh in to debug?

Not off hand, there might be a newer version of the driver, I'll add
it to my todo list.

I can ssh in now, after rebooting without the cma=64M appended. But not
when I boot up with it appended.

Peter,

Your idea of adding the cma=64M to the append line of the extlinux.conf file gave me an idea that works. I can now boot into graphical mode and everything seems working ok except the system starts only 5 of the 8 cpus.

Here is what I found out in the process:

It appears that adding all the "driver" parameters on the "append" line used with "dracut" conflicts with the "cma=64M' parameter you suggested I use. Rather, my append line simply looks like the following:

append ro root=UUID=4d70d307-a61d-4cda-9535-8a8849c262c2 cma=64M

while my "dracut" command line (unwrapped) looks like:

dracut --add-drivers "dw_mmc-exynos exynosdrm ehci-exynos ohci-exynos" /boot/initramfs-4.5.5-300.fc24.armv7hl.img 4.5.5-300.fc24.armv7hl

Hello,
I cannot seem to get past Xorg failures to boot into graphical mode on my
Odroid-Xu4 running either the downloaded 4.5.5-300 based kernel system or
the "dnf update" 4.6.5-300 kernel based system and packages. It appears
that gbm cannot find /usr/lib/dri/exynos_dri.so.
Can someone help me get past this problem? Do I need to install another
package containing the exynos_dri.so? If so, which package?
Thanks.
Following are both the messages from my Xorg.0.log and the messages from
you are going to have to use a snippet because X does not like the edid data
from your monitor. the message you are getting is because there is no mesa
driver for exynos

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for your response.

In fact, I have the system currently booting into graphical mode using
the stock Fedora 24 Mate Spin as it is. It is booting just fine into
graphical mode using the stock mesa driver from Fedora.

As I pointed out in my previous post, the problem was a conflict between
the drivers I provided (the same drivers you suggested for "dracut" in a
previous post to Andreas and Ali) and the cma=64M parameter (Peter
Robinson suggested) on the "append" line of the extlinux.conf file. The
conflict seems to be when the "dw_mmc-exynos" driver also exists on the
"append" line.

To summarize, if one uses the following "dracut" and "append" lines
(unwrapped and with their own UUID value), the system should boot into
graphical mode after UUIDs in the /etc/fstab file are also updated
appropriately :

dracut --add-drivers "dw_mmc-exynos exynosdrm ehci-exynos ohci-exynos"
/boot/initramfs-4.5.5-300.fc24.armv7hl.img 4.5.5-300.fc24.armv7hl

append rd.driver.pre=exynosdrm,ehci-exynos,ohci-exynosro
root=UUID=4d70d307-a61d-4cda-9535-8a8849c262c2 cma=64M LANG=en_US.UTF-8

What would really be nice is if somehow the mali-t628 MP6 hardware could
be used. Running Firefox is somewhat painful without it on my Micro SD
card.

Is there any hope for such a driver?

Unlikely, ARM would have to release the specs. There was some reverse
engineering stuff done in this space but due to various reasons that
aren't technical the work was never released. If accelerated
firefox/graphics is what you want I would be looking at a device like
the nvidia Jetson TK1.

HI Peter,

In fact, I am not a big graphics person and don't play games on my
systems. However, decent performance of a browser that can play sound
and videos reasonably well, is important. Use of the mali hardware
would be nice and perhaps IS important to other users that also run
Fedora as their preferred distro.

My next move will be to build Fedora 24 on my emmc card as the
performance of that change from my SD card alone may provide me
sufficient performance.

So, the only issue remaining for me at this point is trying to get sound
working through HDMI. I am not a programmer, so any help your team
could provide in getting this working would be greatly appreciated. I
am willing to test things if you need me for that.

I suspect sound will work with a USB to analog converter, but I haven't
tried that yet.

Kind regards,
Stewart

This needs to land in the upstream kernel. We don't have the
resources, access to hardware or the time to personally develop
features for every single hardware combination of every single SBC we
support. When it lands in the upstream kernel it will be enabled and
should just work, until them I'm sorry there is little I can do.

How do we get it in the upstream kernel? And I understand the resource
issues.
